Email is going to be EOL?

On the way to
work this morning we heard of an interesting dialog program over the radio, which
said, email is going to be end of life very soon, twitter, facebook and many
other social network and microblog services will take over.

Is it so? I
personally think this blows things out of proportion. A lot of people like me still
use email as the main communication tool and email will not disappear in the
near future.

Although I
have both twitter account and
facebook account, I do not use them very often on purpose, since I am one of
those people who are once into something, would become addicted to it.  I know most of my friends use facebook and
make a lot of fun from it.  I only use
twitter to discuss stock market trend and stock options with some professionals.
Thus I mainly use email for
communication in a more traditional way, trying not to be “too
connected
”.

However, I do
think a microblog service like twitter is a brilliant idea.  Tweets
are text-based posts
of up to 140 characters displayed on
the author’s profile page and delivered to the author’s subscribers who are
known as followers. Senders can restrict delivery to those in their
circle of friends or, by default, allow open access. Users can send and receive
tweets via the Twitter website,
Short Message Service(SMS) or external applications. While
the service itself costs nothing to use, accessing it through SMS may incur phone
service provider
 fees.

How
do you communicate
?
Email, twitter, facebook, or combined?  What is your opinion on this topic?
